Finding your Drishti
I remember when I first started to practice yoga how difficult it was to find my Drishti*.
In yoga your Drishti is your focal point when doing balancing exercises. I remember searching for an object I could focus on – a spot on the wall, another yogini’s water bottle, anything that was stationary and fixed. It rarely worked and I was continually falling over.
It wasn’t until I figured out how to shift my gaze away from three dimensional objects and turn it inward that I could achieve the balance I was seeking for in my yoga pose. Over time I could see that searching for something outside of myself wasn’t the meaning of finding your drishti – it was the intentional gaze that made the difference in your pose. I still lose my stance during Vrkasana or tree pose, but am becoming better with time, focused energy and practice.
We’re moving The Zen of Slow Cooking into 2013 with the intention of “Finding our Drishti.” We will continue our slow cooking journey and encourage you to come along with us. Our stories and recipes have opened up many conversations which we’re excited to continue. We’re also in the planning stages of our product launch for your slow cookers, focusing our energy on a guest spot at the Lake Forest Farmers Market this summer.
We thank you for supporting our young business. The outpouring of interest has been uplifting and we’re excited to share our stories with you throughout the coming year.
One final thought – take a few moments and see where your gaze takes you. And most of all enjoy finding your drishti.
Happy New Year!

*Drishti – is a point of focus where the gaze rests while doing yoga postures or meditation practice. Focusing on a drishti aids concentration, since it is easier to become distracted when the eyes are wandering all over the room.

Zen Moment
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
-Carl Jung
