Drishti Donation

Dear Zen of Slow Cooking Friends –

As we wind down the week, we have found ourselves, like many people all over the world, engaged in deep and soulful conversations with our children discussing the events of the day.

With so much emotion at our collective dinner tables, we made a conscious decision to enter into the conversation after we had given ourselves time to reflect.  We wanted to share an authentic point of view on behalf of ourselves, and also on behalf of all the people that work in our business.

We decided to use the values that describe our business and the words that describe our impact, as the foundation to share our thoughts.

Our Business

Mindful – We are committed to speaking on behalf of those who often go unheard.

Nourishing – We are committed to helping people nourish their body with good food, but also their souls with words of inspiration.

Relevant – We are committed to engaging in doing good deeds.

Simple – We believe in simple acts of kindness and the gift of a listening ear.

Delicious – We believe that life is meant to be enjoyed not endured.

At ZOSC we will continue to do what we do. That is, employment for people in underserved populations, create space for families to share their thoughts over the table and perhaps, most of all, encourage people to simply slow down and listen.

And while supporting non-profits is part of our core mission, we decided this week to spend some time looking at non-profits in Chicago that directly impact individuals in underserved communities on the South Side.  There were so many good ones to choose, but in the end we selected  Urban Growers Collective (UGC).

We chose UGC because of the mission they embody and how they support the five words we use to describe our impact.

Our Impact

Connect – We support their mission of connecting people in food insecure environments with home-grown food.

Educate –  We believe in their passion to provide people skills for gainful employment.

Believe – We believe in their commitment to creating an accessible and sustainable food system.

Share –  We have a shared vision that diversity makes us stronger and appreciate their commitment to inclusion.

Dream –  We believe in their mission of healing and creativity through urban agriculture.

While this is our Drishti Donation, we are encouraging all of you, our friends, to take a moment to consider, where you can lend your unique voice to a brighter future.

With deep appreciation for your support and care…
