Hibiscus Shrub Punch
New Year’s Eve has come around and I’m feeling ready to dash across the finish line and ditch the alcohol, not to mention the calories, for the next few weeks into 2019. To end the year on a healthier note we have a tangy spiritless, hibiscus shrub punch for all the designated drivers out there or anyone who doesn’t imbibe.
Shrubs are the perfect way to replace alcohol, with a tart kick which comes from the addition of vinegar. Recorded in writing in English history for centuries, these acidulated fruit beverages are having some what of a renaissance.
Crafted for the holidays by mixologist Eden Laurin using our Mulling Spice Infusion, our hibiscus shrub punch is a refreshing antidote to our holiday excesses.
Fill a punchbowl and make this a centerpiece for New Year celebrations, serving in elegant glassware.
Author’s Note:
This simple syrup base will keep for a month. I’ve loved using it as a cordial topped off generously with chilled club soda. Alternatively, turn the mocktail into a cocktail by adding a splash of Prosecco.
Zen Moment
