Spiced Whiskey Sour

We’re bringing back cocktail hour with a delicious Spiced Whiskey Sour just in time for the holidays.

It is said that our pallets change with age, possibly because of a decline in the number of taste buds we have. This may explain why in my 5th decade I prefer a short, stronger cocktail to those tall, sweet and creamy piƱa colada’s I loved in my 20’s.

I acquired a taste for Bourbon as recently as 2016 during a road trip to Nashville and Louisville. I now proclaim myself an American whiskey lover, although no aficionado, and most recently enjoyed an expertly crafted Old Fashioned, made by my chef friend Steve in Chicago. Steve has the enviable job of cocktail and beverage development for a large bar chain, so he pulled out a bottle of Angel’s Envy, an award winning small batch bourbon and blended it with his simple syrup before garnishing with a dark red Italian Maraschino cherry.

From our very own zen recipe books, here is our professional nod to a festive Whiskey drink. Debuted right here is Eden Laurin’s Spiced Whiskey Sour, prepared using our Mulling Spice Simple Syrup.

For something to nibble on we recommend our slow cooker spiced nuts, or a delectable California cheeseboard as suggested by our friend Katie at Moms Kitchen Handbook.

If you missed last week’s blog post “The Art of the Craft Cocktail” Eden shared her cocktail toolkit with some great tips!

Zen Moment

All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon.
